A mass is attached to a vertical spring. The spring stitches by 15 cm. How much mass must be attached to the spring to result in a 0.75 s period oscillation. The first step is to draw a picture of the problem. Next, label your given information and make any necessary conversions (cm to m in this case). The equation for the period of a mass on a spring is T=2π√mk. We also know F = kx. We know the force (weight) and x, so we can find the spring constant k. The k value is dependent on the particular spring. This value will change for an ideal spring. Now use the equation for T and solve for additional m value.
